Our Guide to a great Bulb Lasagne !
Spacing :
Expert gardeners know that spacing your plant bulbs further apart, typically 1 to 1 1/2 inches, results in healthier and more abundant growth. Use a 1:1 ratio for best results, such as 30 bulbs for a 30 cm pot , 40 bulbs for a 40cm Pot and 50 bulbs for a 50 cm pot etc.
Depth:
The first layer can be as deep as 11-12 inches.
Bulb size :
Place the largest bulbs at the bottom, and the smallest at the top. Larger bulbs can curve around the bulbs above them.
Container:
Use a well-drained container with holes in the bottom. You can protect the holes with an upturned piece of broken pot to prevent soil from plugging them up. You can also stand the pot on feet to keep it off the ground.
Soil :
Mix compost with grit to help with drainage. A ratio of about 1 part grit to 3 parts compost is typical.
Bulb types :
A classic combination is to plant later-season tulips or alliums at the bottom, then narcissus or daffodils, followed by crocus or Iris reticulata at the top.
